Case study – Premier League performance from AMX

Owned by a former Premiership international, this impressive six bedroom property in Weybridge comes complete with a gym, swimming pool, fully-equipped games room and the kind of hi-tech specification that befits its football-playing owner.

There is a house in Weybridge packed full of the very latest in smart home technology. Owned by a former Premiership international, this impressive six bedroom property comes complete with a gym, swimming pool, fully-equipped games room and the kind of hi-tech specification that befits its football-playing owner.

Yes, with its state-of-the-art cinema, whole home entertainment system and multi-room audio; this particular footballer’s kit is now firmly of the technological variety. And, when it came to managing and integrating all the technology in this impressive property, there was only one choice…enter leading systems integrator Konextions and an AMX control system that is, quite literally, in a league of its own.

Providing precision management of all the property’s automation elements, the AMX system simplifies the way in which the homeowner interacts with the technology around him. “This isn’t technology for technology’s sake,” explains Ian Myles, director at Konextions “The AMX system delivers real lifestyle benefits. It’s a robust system which provides the backbone of the entire automation offering and interfaces seamlessly with third party systems and devices to deliver one, unified control solution. It was only ever going to be AMX for this job and it was fantastic to install. The client is so delighted that he is replicating the system in his next property.”

Through a series of touchpanels, remotes and keypads, the homeowner can enjoy future-ready control of all his entertainment, access, security, lighting and environmental systems. In the dedicated home cinema, a MVP-5200i touchpanel provides fingertip control over the audio-visual provision in this impressive room, allowing occupants to operate the entire set-up with one, intuitive interface. A powerful AMX controller communicates with all the equipment in-situ including a Cineversum Blackwing projector, Draper Onyx fixed projection screen, Denon home cinema receiver and RBH speakers and subwoofer – so a single touch can start the action for an unrivalled cinematic experience.

An impressive complement of Modero touchpanels throughout ensures that access to all the home’s entertainment and automation functions is only a fingertip away. No fewer than eleven 5” and one 7” Modero wall-mounted touchpanels and three 5.2” Modero ViewPoint wireless touchpanels have been integrated into the property.

A 10” Modero NXD-1000Vi wall-mounted touchpanel in the entrance hall offers the ideal interface with the intercom and door entry systems, seamlessly communicating with the AMX Metreau Entry Communicator at the front gates, to enable one-way visual and two-way audio conversation with visitors. Working over a straightforward Ethernet connection, the discreet Metreau allows residents to view crystal clear video of the visitor on their touchpanels and TVs, and talk via telephone, mobile wireless touchpanel or their in-wall screen.

Inside the property, seven-button Metreau keypads have been used as light switches, interfacing with the Lutron system under one, unified control solution.

AMX’s Autopatch Optima matrix switcher delivers true high-definition video distribution to the property’s multiple displays which include no fewer than five 50-inch Pioneer plasmas, one 60-inch Pioneer plasma, two LG HD plasmas, four LG LCD and one Aquavision LCD screen. Seamless switching between video sources and simple touchscreen remote control make it easy for the homeowner to enjoy all the media he’d like, wherever he is.

Audio distribution to the RBH in-ceiling and in-wall speaker is provided by an ADA 16 zone audio distribution system, whilst six integrated iPod docks allow the homeowner to access and enjoy musical content from his iTunes library. Twelve AMX Mio Modero R-1 remotes provide additional custom control. The Mio’s combination of backlit laser-engraved buttons, circular chrome navigation button and chrome hard buttons allow for an intuitive and easy-to-navigate control solution which is ideal for changing channels and adjusting volume.

The AMX technology integrates with the property’s Sensible Heat system to deliver unified control of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. By interfacing with the Hometronic system, precision control over the 25 zones of underfloor heating warming the house and the indoor swimming pool area; the four domestic hot water tanks; the heated towel rails and the 20 Fujitsu air-conditioning units, is readily achieved.

Behind the scenes, a high-performance and ultra-fast NI-3100 NetLinx Controller is the brains of the entire AMX solution, allowing the large number of devices and components to become integrated as part of the central control system. And, as you might expect, this property boasts not one but two Controllers, just in case a back-up is required at any time.

With the use of AMX technology, Konextions has enabled this high-profile homeowner to make the most of his installed systems, giving him a simple, unified control solution that has been customised to suit his needs – proving that, when it comes to systems integration, AMX and Konextions are more than a match for any technological requirement.
