Alcons in the Alps

The sound system installation was carried out by the theatre’s sound chief and recording engineer, Kay Burki, in conjunction with Alcons’ Austrian distributor, Pro Performance.

In the main hall, a total of four Alcons Audio VR12 compact multi-purpose loudspeakers – two each in black and white – have been installed into the proscenium, while three Alcons SR9s have been provided for infill and upper/under balcony delays. Two VR8s, two VR12s and two BF151 bass systems are also part of the specification in this hall.

The smaller studio stage is equipped with two VR8s and a BF151, while the sound and recording studio features a pair of VR8s for monitoring.

Alcons ALC2 amplified loudspeaker controllers with SDP controller cards drive all of the loudspeakers. A DiGiCo D1 mixing console, a PC equipped with Ableton Live Software and an RME FireFace 800 interface were also acquired as part of the St P_lten Landestheater audio upgrade.

Alcons Audio’s managing director, Tom Back, told II: “Of course we’re very happy with being selected for the Landestheater in St P_lten – especially as the earliest planning was based on an established system brand, but the Alcons listening demo [prompted the decision to go] for Alcons. It has been – and still is! – a pleasure to work with Kay and Wolfgang (from Pro Performance) to support the design and installation.”
