Recess-mounted into a suspended ceiling under the shopping centre’s undulating roof, the JBL Control 26CTs provide sound throughout the malls. The speakers are powered by nearly 250 power amplifiers, serviced from a total of five equipment rooms.
The JBL speakers were specified following a comprehensive market and cost analysis. “Several models from other manufacturers would have met the technical criteria,” noted AMS Acoustics’ Tim Gully, “but the JBL came out as the best choice when all the factors such as sensitivity, quality, amplifier requirements, fitting and aesthetics were considered. Having worked with Harman products on many other jobs we were perfectly happy with this.”
Opened in October 2008, Westfield London also features a live performance and exhibition area, The Atrium. The audio system for this area was developed and installed by Surrey-based Delta Sound, and is based around an EtherSound networked solution and equipment from Yamaha, Lab.gruppen and EM Acoustics.
