Martin Audio’s new MLA Compact Multi-cellular loudspeaker array may have grabbed the headlines at Prolight + Sound, but the company has announced a surge in sales for the original MLA – the Compact’s older sibling.
By the end of the Frankfurt expo the High Wycombe company reported that £1.9 million worth of equipment had been sold to two UK rental companies. RG Jones - which names the Glastonbury Festival as an account – and Knutsford-based rental company VME - specialists in servicing the entertainment, touring, corporate and broadcast industries – had both placed significant orders during the show.
RG Jones became the first UK company to invest in a System 36 (24 x MLA top boxes and 12 MLX subs) following successful trials at both the Royal Albert Hall (on Classical Spectacular) and on Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds.
“We needed a large format system and this will be our first self-powered rig,” commented joint managing director of RG Jones Andrew Williamson. “It provides an excellent truck-pack solution because you don’t need to deploy a lot of amp racks, and the degree of control it offers is a major plus point.”
“MLA is the direction we shall be taking as it represents the future of audio,” finished Dion Davie, director of VME.
