Steljes supports education of African children

Sales of interactive white boards (IWBs) will see the UK AV distributor make a donation to help a charitable education programme.

The plight of street children in Africa has been given a boost by UK AV distributor Steljes through its ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ campaign.

Steljes has announced a partnership with the charity Street Child Africa – a charity which works with local partner organisations in sub-Saharan Africa to support children in street situations. The “Breath of Fresh Air” campaign will support the charity’s education programme.

For every SMART Board 600i or 800i interactive whiteboard system sold from 1st July to 30th September to an educational establishment, Steljes will donate the cost of a pair of shoes, uniform and a school bag to the Street Child Africa charity. As an additional incentive, Steljes is offering up to £250 off a SMART Board 600i or 800i interactive whiteboard system when it is swapped out for an old SMART Board in UK schools.

“We are delighted to be associated with such a forward thinking company as Steljes, who share the high value that we put on education,” said Anthony Morton-King, Executive Director Street Child Africa. “Whether it be for children in the UK or in Africa, education is the gateway to their future.”

Although basic education in Africa is normally provided for free, there are often costly, hidden fees – such as compulsory uniforms and exam fees – without which children can be excluded from entering the classroom. This is frequently the case for street children who simply do not have the means to afford to buy the necessary uniform or pay the exam fees that would allow them to have an education.

“The Breath of Fresh Air campaign aims to give street children a safe place to learn, play, and grow,” said Martine Dodwell-Bennett, Sales and Marketing Director at Steljes. “Please join us to help children in street situations gain access to education which will dramatically improve their lives and give them choices for a future.”
