Pro Display moves into residential sector

Screen manufacturer Pro Display has moved into the residential sector by launching a range of designer home theatre solutions. These include a number of unusual and innovative screen technologies, reports Paddy Baker.

The company has set up a new division specifically dedicated to residential technology. Speaking to IE Residential, marketing manager Ben Kershaw explained the rationale behind the move.

“We visited CEDIA Expo last year and saw a lot of potential for our products,” he said. “We feel that the show will give us the right dealers and contacts to start going out there [to the residential marketplace]. However, there was very little there in terms of screens – it was mostly projectors, automation and back-end technology.”

As well as optical front and rear projection screens, the range also includes:

  • Soundvision projection screens, where the screen surface is the speaker;
  • Window projection films, to transform any glazed areas – such as patios, pool rooms, conservatories or sun rooms – into a high-definition rear-projection screen;
  • Switchable intelligent glass, which changes from clear to frosted at the flick of a switch;
  • Mirror screens, which can be overlaid on an existing plasma or LCD screen to convert it into a mirror, but which become transparent when switched on

Also in the range are Soundpod transducers, which turn any surface into a speaker; infrared touchscreens and retrofit IR bezels; canvas art speakers (pictured) and modular speaker panels; and other designer screen solutions.

According to Kershaw, Pro Display’s ambitions for this new division are global: “We export to over 30 countries, so the logistics are already in place. Anywhere in the world is open for us to supply,” he concluded.

The company will be exhibiting at CEDIA Expo, stand C14.
