Having previously traded with overseas customers on an ad hoc basis, VDC is now working with 20 distributors and dealers in markets including the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Far East and North America. During 2008-09, overseas sales grew by 400%, with annual export turnover rising from _80,000 to _400,000.
The past year has also seen VDC Trading sign an exclusive partnership with Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Guitars in the US to produce co-branded guitar leads and accessories, and a collaboration with Van Damme to specify a high-end AV cable for super yachts and cruise liners.
The company also continues to grow its presence in a variety of other sectors, including fixed installation, where its past credits include the supply of cabling and components for projects at the Moscow Concert Hall, Salisbury Cathedral, the National Theatre (UK) and Ascot Racecourse, among many others.
Meanwhile, in another notable development, VDC Trading recently enlisted celebrated artist Zacron – arguably best known for the cover of Led Zeppelin III – to create the artwork for its new catalogue (cover pictured). Niall Holden, MD of VDC Trading, told II: “We’re using the new catalogue, and greatly expanded range of products as a springboard for accelerated expansion across Europe. The focus is on building new relationships with distributors and strengthening those we already have in place, working far more closely with them than we have in the past, for instance by investing in local advertising and promotion. In terms of product developments, there is a lot of interest in our new range of marine cabling, which represents a huge step forward in terms of performance, safety and installation efficiency. It is the first cabling solution designed specifically to support top-end marine installations, where HDTV, audiophile systems, pro-audio and broadcast level installations are becoming entry-level.”
