Alcons performs acoustic challenge at ISE 2013

As well as showcasing its groundbreaking loudspeaker range on the show floor and performing daily demonstrations in the ISE 3D Theatre, Dutch loudspeaker manufacturer Alcons Audio will deliver a series of presentations on obtaining intelligibility in acoustically challenging rooms. The hour-long demonstrations will take place daily at 11:00 and 14:00 in the 700-seat Forum Room at the Amsterdam RAI, located between Hall 8 and Hall 10, Entrance E.

Nowadays, the constant demand for increased SPL and high quality sound is accompanied by a growing demand for more precisely controlled projection. This is due to stronger environmental regulations around the issue of ‘sound spill’, but also to the demand for excellent sound reproduction absolutely everywhere, regardless of the environment. In response, Alcons has developed a range of ‘solution systems’ to bring high SPL, hi-fi sound quality with superb intelligibility to even the most acoustically challenging environments. Visitors can experience these solutions during the presentations, which feature Alcons’ Q-series pro-ribbon line-source columns, as well as the new BC332 cardioid subwoofer, and will take place in the Forum Room, which has typical speech acoustics and a number of reflective surfaces. QR36 has been used in a number of prestigious installation projects, such as the Finnish National Theatre, Moscow’s CATRA theatre, Red Bull’s Hangar-7, Austria, and the Holy Trinity Brompton Church, London. Another focus of the Forum Room demonstrations will be the new QR24 scalable line-source column, the QR36’s compact brother. The QR24 system has the same acoustic abilities as the QR36 (superb throw and intelligibility at all SPLs in even the most reverberant rooms), but in a more compact system, making it an attractive tool for mobile (rental) usage in acoustically challenging applications. Last but by no means least, the LR7 micro line-array will demonstrate the accuracy and unsurpassed vertical directivity of Alcons’ pro-ribbon technology. This micro-sized line-array, measuring just 1 CD high and 2 CDs wide, has unique throw-to-size ratio, setting a new benchmark in projection control, regardless of line-array format. All systems on show will be powered by Alcons’ new Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controllers. Featuring a DSP processor with four patent-pending 2.5kW audiophile-grade amplifier stages, the powerful Sentinel units feature 4-in/4-out 192kHz capable AES/EBU inputs and all-digital signal control and processing.
