First UK club install for Tannoy’s VQ

The audio installation – carried out by local company B&S Sound & Light – is centred around the first UK club installation of Tannoy’s new VQ Series loudspeakers.

On the ground floor – which houses a caf_ style bar that also serves as a pre-club warm-up space in the evenings – Tannoy V8s handle audio coverage throughout, supported by a pair of VS10 BP compact bandpass subwoofers.

The first floor, meanwhile, incorporates the main dance floor. The specification in this area features a pair of VQ NET 60 cabinets flown on their sides along the side of the dancefloor, with two VS218 DR twin 18in subwoofer cabs providing low frequency reinforcement. B&S Sound & Light also fitted V8s for fill and another V12 in the DJ booth for monitoring.

On the second floor, the system comprises another pair of VQ NET 60s and accompanying VS218 DR subs on the dancefloor, while a total of nine Di6Ts provide background music for the Cube restaurant. The VIP lounge system incorporates more V8s and a dozen CMS501 ceiling speakers.

Graham White, operations manager at B&S Sound & Light, told II: “We use Tannoy a lot because of the quality and also the fact that the failure rating is very, very low. Plus with it being a high spec development, these VQ series units really suited the venue. It was always going to be a VIP club, so what’s better than using VIP equipment?”

System management across the complex is provided by a quartet of Tannoy TDX1 digital controllers, while power comes from a grand total of seven Lab.gruppen amplifiers, specifically four 16:4s, two FP6400s and one C20:8.
