Lutron fit-out for spectacular Majorca home

Three years in development, the cliff-top residence has been equipped with Lutron’s HomeWorks lighting control system. Situated on the island’s most northerly tip, Cap de Formentor, the six-bedroom property – known as C’an de Rosen – was developed by de Rosen Design & Build, and drew on the lighting expertise of independent consultancy VBK Lighting Consultants.

The no-expense-spared residence incorporates a number of striking features, including a waterfall, pool, aquarium, gymnasium and ‘cigar smoking den’.

Invited to recommend a lighting scheme that was both highly energy efficient and sympathetic to the minimalist design aesthetic, VBK specified a set-up that combines flourescent and LED light sources with Lutron’s HomeWorks lighting control system, more than 60 Lutron keypads and sensors. The overall scheme is said to have an energy-efficient load of 90%.

Notable features of the lighting installation include recessed flush linear systems that accentuate the architectural features of the house, and the use of four different lamp circuits, each of which has been integrated into HomeWorks and programmed to work through a ‘dawn to dusk’ rotation. In addition, the home’s security shutters and blinds have been integrated into HomeWorks, and act as daylight control blinds when necessary.

VBK’s Max von Barnholt described the C’an de Rosen project as one of the largest residential installations VBK has ever been involved with, and said of the decision to use Lutron systems: “We had no hesitation in using Lutron’s HomeWorks system as we have found it to work very well on other high-profile projects. In this instance it was particularly useful for identifying low loads – especially important with the quantity of LEDs used throughout the scheme.”
