Windsor Great Park set for winter lights spectacular

Windsor Great Park Illuminated, a dazzling winter light trail with 20 installations featuring 10,000 light points, will open November 18 at the 2,020 hectare Royal Park not far from Windsor Castle

IMG and DEAG Entertainment Group have announced Windsor Great Park Illuminated – a “dazzling winter light trail” at the 2,020 hectare Royal Park not far from Windsor Castle, opening on November 18 and running until January 9, 2022 (closed Christmas Day), 430-10pm GMT. The trail is set to feature 20 installations requiring 10,000 light points and 4km of cabling alongside originally composed music suited to each trail segment.  Attendees will enjoy a laser-flooded forest, a 1.5 sqkm light field, plus holographic projections on Windsor’s Obelisk Pond.

Created and produced by IMG (Hampton Court Palace Festival, Natural History Museum Ice Rink, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Taste Festivals) and DEAG Entertainment Group / Christmas Garden Deutschland GmbH (creator of 15 acclaimed light trails in Europe: Berlin pictured left; Stuttgart below), the experience will see awash trees, paths and the Obelisk Pond with hundreds of thousands of lights, lasers, projections and holograms.

The trail will feature “colourful and brilliant” light installations including floating water lilies, a field of lights extending over 1,400 square metres, fountains of projected flowers, and holograms of woodland creatures. In addition, the trail will take visitors through a dreamlike laser-scape amongst the trees, a cathedral of light, an ethereal ship in recognition of Britain’s naval past.

Cosy teepee rest spots with a selection of stalls selling food, mulled wine and hot chocolate – as well as specially designed firepits for outdoor marshmallow toasting – will complete the experience.

The trail will be run in accordance with Covid-19 guidance in place at the time of the event, with the health and safety of visitors and staff remaining the priority. In addition to regular cleaning of touch points and hand sanitisation stations in place throughout the outdoor site, Windsor Great Park Illuminated will operate a timed entry system (outside the usual park opening hours), ensuring a comfortable, spacious and safe environment for all visitors. Tickets are on sale now, from £21.45 adult, from £13.20 child, and from £62.70 family (including fees).
