PAI Group company Vaughan Sound Installations (VSI) has undertaken an extensive project at the new Glan Usk School in Newport. Sensitivity to budget and ease of use were among the primary requirements of the AV systems, which have been installed in the school’s two assembly halls.
Lighting-wise, VSI’s Keith Fish recommended a low maintenance LED system in the main hall revolving around two lighting bars that can light the stage in two different configurations. These bars are loaded with a total of 12 polished chrome LED PAR 64s, each containing 36 RGB LEDs. In the smaller hall, meanwhile, there is a single lighting bar containing 12 PAR 56 LED equivalents. Control is provided by a 24-channel DMX desk.
In terms of audio, both halls feature Phonix power mixer amps and speakers, specified for their reliability and ability to complement a wide range of applications, including school assemblies and theatre productions. Audio-Technica handheld radio wired and wireless microphones are also on hand, while VSI has installed a smaller TOA F2322 recessed ceiling speaker system (TOA’s F Series is pictured) into the separate drama studio space.
Both halls have also been equipped with multimedia projection technology, including an integrated control system in the main hall that allows the 3.5m electric roll-down screen and projector to be activated from a single point at the touch of a button.
