UK AV companies recognised with Queen’s Awards for Enterprise

A host of UK-based AV companies have won royal approval for achievements in innovation and international trade

The 2020 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise have been made public, with a number of UK-based AV technology companies being recognised.

In total, 220 companies have received awards across four categories: Innovation, International Trade, Sustainable Development, and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility). The awards are deemed to be the most prestigious for UK business, and have been awarded annually since 1966, after being instituted by royal warrant the previous year.

Cambridge-based KVM specialist Adder Technology has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for excellence in International Trade for ‘outstanding short term growth in overseas sales over the last three years’. The awards programme stated: The company has demonstrated strong year on year growth in overseas sales rising by 69 per cent overall, with the United States the major market. The company has no external investment, growing organically with profits reinvested into R&D for new products.”

Adrian Dickens, founder and CEO of Adder, said, “We are extremely proud to win another Queen’s Award – this time recognising our International Trade efforts. Earlier in the year, we were delighted to announce a multi-million dollar investment to support our global expansion, and I consider this accolade as an acknowledgement of the fantastic work undertaken by the team at Adder.”

Another company to be recognised with an award for International Trade, this time for growth in overseas sales over the last six years, is Peerless-AV. Managing director EMEA, Keith Dutch, said, “We are obviously delighted to receive this prestigious Royal accolade, as it recognises the hard work and commitment we have invested to develop our international business. I am confident that this respected award, and its globally recognised symbol, will drive our export business and the worldwide standing of Peerless-AV to new heights.”

The company’s overseas sales have grown by 176 per cent across the last six years and the percentage exported has risen from 26 per cent to 42 per cent, according to the programme.

Fife-based Exterity Ltd has also been rewarded with the International Trade honour having grown its IP video and digital signage exports by 85 per cent over the last three years, with exports now accounting for three-quarters of turnover.

Solid State Logic has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category for its System T modular professional audio broadcast system. The company’s MD Nigel Beaumont, said, “At Solid State Logic we are incredibly proud to receive this award as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. We dedicate it to all our amazing staff, partners and clients, past and present. Being part of Audiotonix since 2017 means we have new levels of expertise and ongoing investment to help us continue to innovate, and this award for System T is testament to that.”

Other companies from in and around the AV and media technology markets to win awards include Codex Digital (Innovation), New Angle Productions (International Trade), InSync Technology (International Trade), and Synchro Arts (International Trade, and Innovation awards).
