The sound system at Club Gossip, which regularly attracts up to 900 revellers, was designed and installed by avos as. The audio spec provided for the venue had to be versatile enough to cope with a wide variety of recorded and live music across three levels.

After comparing products from three other suppliers, Gossip’s managers selected an Electro-Voice system designed by Norwegian installation engineering and audio consultancy company avon as.

The powerhouse of the new system is the air-conditioned equipment room on the first floor, where 10 Electro-Voice CPS series amplifiers (eight CPS2.6MKII, one CPS2.9MKII and one CPS2.12MKII) and a NetMax N8000 signal processor with IRIS-Net v.2.0 software (supervising the system via a WLAN router) can be found. With its 300 MIPS (or, optionally, 600 MIPS) of processing power and a flexible 32-in/32-out audio signal structure, the NetMax N8000 provides a complex control network that, says Electro-Voice, is nonetheless simple and intuitive to operate.

Meanwhile, the E-V speaker spec comprises: one Rx215 sub, two Zx1i100 speakers and six EVID 4.2 speakers in L-R-L stereo on the first floor; four ZX5Bs, two Xsubs and three EVID 4.2 speakers (L-R-L stereo) on the ground floor; and two ZX3Bs, two Rx215 subs and five ZX1i10 speakers in the basement. DJ equipment includes Pioneer DJM-400 and DJM-800 mixers, DCJ-400 CD and CDJ-1000 MKIII CD players, and four Technics SL-1210 MK V turntables.

Programmable Wall Station (PWS-4) wall panels on each storey provide staff and DJs with easy, convenient local system control.

Erlend Aasved, who is responsible for the club’s sound equipment, commented: “Everywhere in the club, the sound is outstanding; moreover, the system is ultra-reliable and child’s play to operate.” The system, he added, is making “an important contribution to the success of the club”.

Markus Schmittinger, Electro-Voice export sales manager Western Europe, told IE: “The NetMax Digital Matrix System just fitted in perfectly. On the one hand it features very powerful processing comprising extremely low latency times and superb algorithms. On the other hand the system is easy to use and has got an individually programmable user interface which perfectly fulfils the requirements of a matrix mixer and loudspeaker controller.”
