Installation company TechLED was recently called upon to deliver the external lighting upgrade project for Grosvenor Casinos’ The Victoria, London – the jewel in the crown of the Grosvenor Casinos estate. To meet the requirements of a prestige 24/7 leisure venue, IP68-rated Flex Pro Exterior from Acclaim Lighting was specified for its endurance and reliability.
The exterior refreshment followed hard on the heels of an extensive and impressive internal refurbishment that was designed and implemented, along with the lighting design, by architectural practice Roberts Limbrick, longstanding design partners for Grosvenor Casinos.
Because its location, in London’s West End, is subject to stringent planning restrictions, the design for the exterior of the first-floor venue was kept simple, and closely followed the distinctive original look. Roberts Limbrick’s John Moony explained: “The focus was to achieve a high quality and robust lighting installation that we could trust for its longevity, which is why we chose TechLED Ltd and the Acclaim lighting products. Operating 24/7, the venue requirement was for high-grade products fit for purpose, with the added assurance of reliable support to quickly and effectively handle any problems should they arise.”
Over 700m of Acclaim Lighting Flex Pro Exterior was deployed across the two elevations of the corner-situated venue. The product, which can be cut to the exact length requirement, was mounted on metal extrusions fixed through the newly PPC-clad wall surface.
Light pollution boundaries were imposed on each elevation. Accordingly, the Flex Pro Exterior was fitted with Acclaim Lighting’s AL Dimmer 1 Pro DMX dimmer packs to reduce brightness to 70% on one elevation and 50% on the other. The AL Dimmer 1 Pro is a single-channel DMX + 0-10V dimming driver for low-voltage LED fixtures.
Lighting control was handled by Acclaim Lighting’s ART 500 touch panel DMX Controller, which boasts 1,024 DMX channels and 500 preset scenes, designed to be the most effective control solution for architectural lighting. The easy-to-navigate ART 500 software package includes powerful control features, such as the dusk-to-dawn timer deployed on one elevation of the casino, and the automated timing function for more stringent control on the other.
