LG expands casting to existing hotel TVs

Free firmware update adds Google Cast to hundreds of thousands of earlier-generation LG Pro:Centric webOS 5 Smart Hotel TVs and Smartboxes, simplifying in-room streaming for guests

LG Electronics USA has announced a free firmware upgrade that brings Google Cast functionality to hundreds of thousands of earlier-generation Pro:Centric Smart hospitality TVs and set-top boxes. The company, which offers hotel TVs with integrated casting for both Google Cast and Apple AirPlay, will showcase the expanded capabilities at The Hospitality Show 2025, Oct. 26-28, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The update applies to 2020-2023 webOS 5 Pro:Centric TV models (US670H, US770H, UR770H series) and the STB-6500 smartbox, already widely deployed in hotels nationwide. The upgrade enables hoteliers to deliver guest casting without replacing existing TVs or adding external hardware. Designed for quick, disruption-free deployment, systems integrators can roll out the update with minimal downtime or guest impact, the company says.

Jake Benner, senior director of hospitality at LG Electronics USA, said: “This new firmware upgrade underscores LG’s ongoing commitment to protecting our customers’ investments. Our ability to extend Google Cast functionality to previous-generation TVs is unique in the market and highlights the long-term value of LG display solutions.”

LG says that with Google Cast integrated into LG smart hotel TVs, guests can securely stream content, including movies, music, and photos, from their Android or iOS devices directly to the in-room TV. After scanning a QR code and entering their room number, guests can cast content privately, using their own device as a remote. Apple AirPlay casting is already supported on webOS 5 and the latest webOS 23 Pro:Centric smart TV models.

Benner added: “Our goal is to make hotel guest experiences smarter and simpler. By adding Google Cast to existing Pro:Centric TVs, we’re enabling hotels to offer seamless in-room streaming while protecting technology investments and ensuring smooth operations for staff and guests alike.”

LG will highlight the future of guest-room entertainment and hotel operations at The Hospitality Show 2025, Booth 1237, Oct. 26-28 in Denver.
