Prolight + Sound has seen the launch of a compact version of ETC’s Cobalt 20 desk. The new Cobalt 10 lighting console features the same capacity and functions of the Cobalt 20, but has a smaller footprint to enable it to fit into control rooms with limited space, or to be taken on the road.
“Cobalt 10 is the sporty member of the Cobalt family,” said ETC Cobalt product manager Sarah Clausen. “It has high resolution, 12in (30cm) multitouch displays that articulate, so programmers can easily pack it into a road case for a touring show or adjust the screens to better see the stage in a small theatre.”
Cobalt 10 also has a smaller master playback area than Cobalt 20, with 10 motorised faders and 10 backlit, colour-coded endless pots. It has 5,000 channels to control dimmers, LEDs, moving lights, media servers and more, on up to 32 universes of output, without the need for additional processing hardware.
The Cobalt line is designed to rid the lighting process of unnecessary keystrokes and complicated syntax. Direct access tools such as Device Encoders and a touch-based Device Controls dock mean the most hands-on controls in the fastest programming environment ever, says ETC. With innovative tools that include direct selects with built-in intensity control and Expanded Masters modes, the Cobalt system is claimed to offer a new level of hands-on control for live playback, without losing any of the finesse required for intricately cued shows.
