Projector sales show some growth

The worldwide projector market has shown modest growth over the past 12 months, with softness in the developed markets being compensated by growth in emerging markets.

New research from Futuresource Consulting indicates that the worldwide market grew by 4% during the preceding twelve months, with shipments reaching 1.98 million units in Q3.

Emerging markets saw continued growth: China, for example, saw year-on-year growth of 16% with 510,000 units, making it the largest market worldwide, while Russian shipments stood at 54,700 units. Growth in these markets offset relatively sluggish demand in the developed markets.

Short throw projectors currently account for more than 14% of all sales, up from 12.7% a year ago, while projectors with built-in interactivity accounted for nearly 2% of all sales. SVGA sales reduced slightly, with XGA resolution projectors comprising over 50% of the market. WXGA gained around 30% of the US market.
