projectiondesign powers interactive 360º experience at La Biennale di Venezia 2013

The 55th annual Biennale di Venezia arts festival, taking place in Venice, Italy, between 1 June and 24 November features an 360º immersive installation incorporating projectiondesign F22 projectors.

The United Arab Emirates’ entry into the world’s oldest and prestigious arts festival – this year’s Biennale di Venezia – is a 360º immersive installation made possible by projectiondesign F22 projectors.

‘Walking on Water’ was realised by UK-based immersive specialist Igloo Vision for the 55th annual event, which runs 1 June to 24 November in Venice, Italy. The installation, which is located in the United Arab Emirates’ national pavilion at the Sale d’Armi, features a solo exhibition by vanguard Emirati artist Mohammed Kazem under the leadership of Commissioner, Dr. James Hamdan entitled ‘Directions 2005/2013’.

“Showing content of seascapes and replicating what it would be like to be lost at sea, the immersive installation uses fifteen F22 projectors at WUXGA resolution with zoom lenses and installed in portrait mode. The projectors are edge blended and integrated in a floor to ceiling 360° fully immersive screen using tailor made software,” commented Pippa Halliday, sales director at Igloo.

“The projectors were chosen because of their reliability and ability to be shown in portrait mode. They produce high-quality images with colour accuracy, which was calibrated at the factory in Norway meaning that little tweaking was necessary at the site,” continued Halliday. “The projectors are tried and tested as Igloo have used projectiondesign before with great result, so we know they will perform for the duration of the La Biennale di Venezia 2013.”

Maria Dahl Aagaard, product marketing manager at projectiondesign says: “We’re delighted to see that Igloo has enabled artist Mohammed Kazem to achieve his goals in ensuring that the projectors were supportive rather than intrusive. It was important to make sure that visitors to the ‘Directions 2005/2013’ installation could walk in and feel as though they were part of the experience.”
