Muzak unveils collaboration with BrightSign, Scala

The three companies have joined forces to produce a new digital signage product with nationwide service and support, entitled Encompass DS. Muzak Media’s Christopher Williams said that, having evaluated the digital signage market over several years, the company concluded that “a simpler, more elegant solution was missing. The combined specialties of Muzak, BrightSign and Scala have created a truly unique solution that will satisfy the needs of today’s savvy business owners.”

Developed to enable “diverse, dynamic and affordable” digital signage, Encompass DS allows users to log in from any internet-connected computer to manage and monitor their content quickly and simply. At their disposal are 1,000 content-rich feeds from outlets including The New York Times and People magazine, along with dozens of customisable templates.

Providing full HD video and premium-quality images, without the complexity of a PC-based solution, Encompass DS is based around lightweight hardware (567 grams) with compact dimensions of 6.6″ (W) x 5.9″ (H) x 1.2″ (D).

Speaking to IE about the potential for its SignChannel offer within the Encompass DS package, Scala executive vice president Jeff Porter reflected: “The Muzak/SignChannel relationship is a great way for small businesses that already have the traditional muzak service to add a simple, easy-to-use, digital signage service. Muzak is the grandfather of all in-store music services, and we are pleased to be partnering with the leader in that industry. The BrightSign player is a great way to use SignChannel when you’re looking to connect your own screen. Of course, you don’t have to be a current Muzak customer to order SignChannel. They’ll be happy to sign you up as you are. With the breadth and depth of typical ‘small business customers’ that they talk to every day, it’s a great way to get the word out on this revolutionary new service.”

“We’re honoured that Muzak selected BrightSign technology for the new Encompass DS,” said Jeff Hastings (pictured), BrightSign CEO. “The solid-state hardware platform we developed for Encompass DS is based on BrightSign’s HD210 network-enabled player.”

Steve Villa, CEO of Muzak, added: “We’ve spent the past 18 months improving every facet of Muzak-with a specific emphasis on our products and service. The launch of the Encompass DS is another proud milestone for our company.”
