InstallMarket: exploring emerging tech trends in education

Which are the technologies that are making inroads into school, college and university budgets – and where are the trends leading? Our expert panel at InstallMarket will have the answers.

There are numerous new technologies knocking on the doors of schools and colleges: mobile devices (either supplied or BYOD), video and audio over IP, Cloud storage, lecture capture, campus digital signage – and that’s in addition to more established kit such as interactive whiteboards and visualisers. But where does the greatest potential lie? Which are the technologies that are making inroads into school, college and university budgets – and where are the trends leading?

These are some of the issues that the education panel at InstallMarket will address. Entitled ‘Not Your Father’s Classroom; Not Your Mother’s Campus’, the session will explore how technologies are changing education, especially the intersection between video and mobile and Cloud.

The panel moderator will be Colin Messenger (pictured), senior analyst at Futuresource Consulting, who has been involved with the education market for over 12 years. He will present an overview of the sector, which will then be discussed in more depth by three integrator panellists: Andy Duckworth of CDEC (who spent a number of years as a teacher before moving to the world of AV), Daryl Clarke of Digitavia and Alan Marshall of Pure AV.

Says Messenger: “I’ll start by presenting data for market penetrations of different product categories – comparing the UK’s position with other countries. People are often quite surprised by some of these country comparisons. I’ll then dig behind the numbers and look at the trends underlying the big-picture data. The panellists will then draw on their experience working on projects in this sector to provide a further level of insight into what is making the education world tick right now.”

In the final part of the session, the panel will answer questions from the audience.

‘Not Your Father’s Classroom; Not Your Mother’s Campus’ is at 2:00pm on Thursday 4 September as part of InstallMarket, a one-day conference and networking event that takes place at the Business Design Centre. To register to attend this FREE event, go to www.install-market.com/registration.
