MultiTouch’s installation of the largest interactive display wall for research purposes in Europe at Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) has been shortlisted for three awards in the Education category at next month’s InstallAwards. At approximately 5m wide and 2.5m high, the turnkey 12 x 55in MultiTaction iWall recognises finger touches, complete hands, infrared pens and objects.
In its research, TU Dresden will use the rich input of multiple users at the MultiTaction iWall. The iWall offers the university the possibility of enhancing and personalising the user experience by utilising MultiTaction Codice, which creates a truly bidirectional communications channel between the user and MultiTaction iWall content. For example, Codice IDs can be printed on visitor badges or ID cards, allowing for faster interaction with the MultiTaction iWall for personalised content and transactions. At the same time, MultiTaction iWall administrators can gain valuable analytics on user behaviour.
The central product used in the MultiTaction iWall is the 55in MultiTaction Cell, 12 of which were used. These displays, which allow any number of people to interact with them at any one time, are perfectly suited for use in public spaces because of MultiTouch’s proprietary Hybrid Tracking, which works to ensure that MultiTaction Cells are immune from the effects of ambient light whether sunlight, halogen spotlights or other light sources.
Another important development is MultiTaction Site Manager which enables system integrators, IT managers and content providers to manage thousands of globally dispersed, network connected interactive systems.
A major feature, is unlimited stackability. Virtually any number of MultiTaction Cells can be assembled together to operate as one screen. This, coupled with the release of ultra-thin bezel MultiTaction Cells gives integrators the opportunity to create giant displays in any conceivable configuration, with near-indiscernible mullion.
“The InstallAwards are something we’re very much looking forward to, as this is a publication that we follow with great interest. We are of course very pleased that our TU Dresden MultiTaction iWall installation is one of the finalists in the education category – there’s nothing like it in any university anywhere in the world – and that we’re also shortlisted for a teamwork award and for Star Product with the MultiTaction iWall,” enthused Hannu Antilla, vice president, business development, MultiTouch.
