Lab.gruppen is launching its new install-dedicated decentralised amplifier range, LUCIA, at InfoComm.

This is the company’s first product for small-scale AV applications – a whole new market for Lab.gruppen – and is the smallest amplifier the company has ever produced. The company says that the two-channel LUCIA (Localized Utility Compact Intelligent Amplification) is ideally suited to corporate boardrooms, classrooms and small lecture theatres, museum multi-media areas and retail units. It offers high-quality audio without the complication and cost of a distributed system.

Designed for speed of install and configuration, LUCIA (pictured here with TC Group’s Tim Chapman) combines low-impedance amplifier electronics with advanced DSP. The range comprises four models across two power configurations – 2 x 60 W and 2 x 120 W – each available with either 4-in, 4-out matrix-mixer and configurable DSP features (LUCIA 120/2M, LUCIA 240/2M) or in a basic two-in two-out configuration (LUCIA 120/2 and LUCIA 240/2). All models come with DSP pre-configured ‘out of the box’ for typical applications; however, the M variants can be set up using Windows or Mac software via USB connection to customise the processing and mix-matrix to meet specific system requirements.

Klas Dalbjorn, Lab.gruppen’s product research manager for install products, said: “LUCIA breaks new ground for Lab.gruppen, at the same time drawing on our knowledge and expertise in powerful, energy-efficient amplification. Like E Series, LUCIA is Energy Star compliant, and is built upon proven Class D technology. The ease of install, ease of use and relatively low through-life cost make this a very compelling choice in today’s marketplace.”

LUCIA features Lab.gruppen limiters and mastering-quality EQ and technologies from elsewhere within TC Group, including processing algorithms evolved from TC Electronic’s System 6000 mastering system. Advanced DSP features include the Enhanced Bass Profile, which is said to deliver greatly improved LF performance from standard full-range in-ceiling or surface mount loudspeakers, possibly negating the need for a separate subwoofer. Thanks to the Auto Load Sense feature, the device automatically measures the impedance of a connected load and adjusts itself to deliver full power at all impedances (2–8 ohm). Intelligent fan control ensures silent operation at low volumes, and low noise even at high output.

Tailor-made presets will be made available for Tannoy’s commercial loudspeaker ranges, along with additional hardware accessories to provide mounting flexibility.
