We’re pleased to announce that The Installation Europe Guide to Voice Alarm Systems is now available – and we can offer an exclusive discount to IE readers.

There are numerous standards – and much confusion – in the area of voice alarm systems. For instance, the EN 54 standard is designed to ensure that products used in life safety applications perform with the degree of rigour appropriate to the circumstances. As such, at the moment it is mainly a concern for manufacturers, although the need for installers to understand its implications is increasing as its implementation deadline approaches. In addition, there are many more standards and regulations that apply in this area, including BS 5839, EN 60489, ISO 7240, and sports ground standards BS 7827 and the Green Guide.

Although Installation Europe has provided some assistance in the form of articles, there’s a limit to what we can do within the physical limitations of a magazine and its associated website. This is where The Installation Europe Guide to Voice Alarm Systems comes in. Written by expert consultants Roland Hemming and Richard Northwood, it is designed to give a practical understanding of the legislation and the techniques that apply to the design, installation and maintenance of voice alarm systems.

In order that the guide should not simply reflect the viewpoints of its authors, it has also been out for peer review by a number of industry authorities. So you’d be hard pressed to find a publication with a more distinguished pedigree.

We’ve also tested the water with the Installation Europe readership. During the ISE show in February we had an ‘open house’ session on the IE booth one lunchtime, where visitors had the chance to find out about the publication and discuss it with Roland. This was a highly useful exercise, as it gave him some good steers on the general level of knowledge among the audience for the guide, and helped him to tailor its content accordingly.

The guide is only available from Roland’s company Avitas Global, but a discount is available to Installation Europe readers. Simply enter the code IE2010VA and you can obtain a 20% discount off the price of both the printed and the downloadable versions of the Guide.
