Home technology – Dimenco creates glasses-free 3D displays

Dimenco’s glasses-free 3D display technology is said to offer unprecedented depth performance, the widest viewing angle, lowest cross-talk and deepest black levels.

Dimenco’s glasses-free 3D display technology is said to offer unprecedented depth performance, the widest viewing angle, lowest cross-talk and deepest black levels. Dimenco, specialist in the field of glasses-free 3D displays, has unveiled Dimenco Clear View (DCV) technology, which it claims takes glasses-free 3D displays to the next level. For the first time, says the company, people can experience 3D with the deepest black levels, no brightness loss, widest viewing angle and lowest cross-talk, offering the ultimate glasses-free 3D display. “Dimenco Clear View technology reflects how Dimenco is pushing the limits of innovation in the glasses-free 3D domain,” said Bas Böggemann, COO of Dimenco. “The optimal 3D performance is based on the strong interaction between lens design, panel and manufacturing process. With the DCV technology we have taken the 3D experience to the next level.” Until now, 3D auto-stereoscopic (glasses-free) displays have always had to compromise on brightness, contrast and viewing angle performance. The reason for this was the coupling of the lenticular lens to the LCD-panel that created a small loss of brightness and contrast, downgrades the black level and slightly reduces the cosmetic appearance of modern displays. Furthermore, traditional lenticular displays have a limited viewing angle in which 3D is perceived, and it suffers from a limited 3D experience due to optical crosstalk. Dimenco Clear View technology is said to solve these compromises via its unique lens design and manufacturing process. The optical stack has been optimized to limit internal reflections and is not affected by any form of diffusion, resulting in the purest possible optical performance. By combining the DCV technology and Dimenco image processing, the smoothest cone transitions are achieved resulting in the most immersive 3D experience in the market, says the company. “Dimenco continuously supports us with improving our products and creating the most immersive 3D experience for our customers, Dimenco Clear View technology is another clear example of this,” said Wilfred De Man, general manager, Philips Monitors and Displays. Dimenco has also licensed technology under the Dolby 3D program. It is now able to offer Dimenco’s glasses-free ultra-high-resolution 3D displays with Dolby 3D image processing. Based on a combined project between Dolby Laboratories and Royal Philips Electronics, Dolby 3D is a 3D HD format suite of technologies designed to deliver full HD 3D content to 3D-enabled devices, including glasses-free displays. It has been developed to improve the 3D viewing experience on displays of all sizes, including smartphones, tablets, PCs and televisions. Dolby 3D is a complete system designed to work throughout the chain to deliver clear glasses-free 3D content that operates over existing distribution systems. www.dimenco.eu
