eyevis videowalls enable real-time monitoring at marine operations centre

Visual display technology from eyevis has been selected to inform nautical specialists working in the Carnival Maritime Fleet Operations Centre (FOC) in Hamburg, which provides digital support and control for the 25 cruise ships of Costa Crociere, Costa Asia and AIDA.

The FOC includes a control centre for real-time monitoring of the various parameters of their vessels such as radar and meteorological data. The eyevis screens also display information such as fuel levels and water stores to keep the team of 150 skilled specialists informed.

To display the various information sources, the team in the FOC use three videowalls each composed of a 3 x 3 array of 47in seamless LCDs. The EYE-LCD-4700-USN-LD-FX displays provide full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), 24/7-ready electronics and a slim bezel gap of 4.9mm between the content of two displays. The curved installation of the videowalls ensures all officers in the control room have a perfect viewing angle of all screens.

A further videowall in the FOC with a 2 x 2 array of 55in EYE-LCD-5500-USN-LD-FX displays is used to provide additional information to the staff.

A further room for meetings and conferences adjoining the actual fleet operations was equipped with an 85in Ultra-HD touchscreen. The large-format EYE-LCD-8500-QHD-LD-TOUCH-6IR device features 3840 x 2160 resolution and is more than 2m diagonal. An infrared touch system with six simultaneous touch points enables intuitive presentations and interaction with displayed contents. To ensure a flexible application, the display is mounted on a height-adjustable stand.

To ensure a uniform display on all screens the FOC also received an EYE-LCD-Colour Adjustment System. In case of colour shifts in the displays, or after the replacement of an individual screen, the semi-automated system can be applied to achieve a homogeneous representation of brightness and colours on all connected screens.

“The installed system had to fulfil highest demands. Best reliability of operation, high image quality and resolution, as well as a balanced price-performance ratio made eyevis solutions the ideal solution.” summarised Jörgen Strandberg, director Fleet Operation Centre at Carnival Maritime.

Michael Reichart, sales manager at eyevis, added: “We are very happy Carnival Maritime is convinced of the reliability and usability of our solution. This again points out the leading role of our products in the fields of command and control.”
