More than 1,000 E-V speakers installed in major Doha project

More than 1,000 Electro-Voice loudspeakers, driven by Contractor Precision Series power amplifiers, have been installed in Souq Al Wakrah, a newly built tourist attraction near Doha.

More than 1,000 Electro-Voice loudspeakers, driven by Contractor Precision Series (CPS) power amplifiers, have been installed in Souq Al Wakrah, a newly built tourist attraction near Doha, in the Emirate of Qatar.

Several years in construction, Souq Al Wakrah, which opened recently, features restaurants, shops and cultural installations. To provide distributed sound to the quarter, which extends over 2km, Helmet Trading & Contracting installed the E-V ZX1i loudspeakers and CPS power amplifiers. In addition, 12 N8000 matrixes handle the loudspeaker processing, and the entire system – with custom-designed IRIS-Net graphical user interface – can be configured, controlled, and supervised via touchscreen.

Engineer and project manager Mahmoud Fahmawi from Helmet commented on the choice of Electro-Voice as project partner: “Our past experience with the support and quality provided by Electro-Voice made this decision a no-brainer. Helmet’s technical experts and the Electro-Voice team worked together on the sound design and simulations.

“With this system, we have succeeded in providing homogeneous coverage of the entire area – including the 500m-long parking lot,” said Mahmoud Fahmawi. “The sound performance of the loudspeakers is great. They are equipped with high-end, lightweight components and are also extremely robust and weatherproof, making them the perfect choice for outdoor installations.

“With so many cabinets, the integrated QuickSAM heavy-duty, strong-arm mounting kit really proved useful. It made the installation easy and straightforward – saving us a great deal of time and money.”

To blend harmoniously into the historic appearance of the Souq Al Wakrah, all the loudspeakers were hidden in recesses and covered with fabric matching the colour of the walls.
