Futuresource Consulting has released a new Future Sessions video exploring the growing emphasis on impact in education technology. The video coincides with the launch of the company’s EdTech Impact Service, which is designed to help schools, investors and solution providers evaluate the effectiveness of technology deployments.

Historically, EdTech discussions centred on adoption and access. Futuresource says the focus has now shifted to understanding where technology delivers value, under what conditions, and at what cost.
Melanie Tagg, principal analyst-head of education at Futuresource Consulting, said: “EdTech has moved beyond the point of broad justification. The real challenge now is much more nuanced. It’s about understanding what works, for whom, and under what conditions. That requires sophisticated analysis and a more detailed interpretation of the results.”
The Future Sessions episode highlights a common issue in the sector – data on impact exists, but it is often fragmented, high-level or disconnected from classroom realities. Futuresource’s Impact Service aims to translate this data into actionable insight, providing guidance on teacher efficiency, student outcomes and broader educational effectiveness.
Tagg added: “The market is becoming more accountable. Technology still has a role to play in education, but stakeholders are asking harder questions about impact. The ability to answer those questions clearly is becoming a critical differentiator.”
The service is intended to support budget holders, school leaders and technology providers in assessing performance, reducing uncertainty in decision-making, and developing evidence-based cases for investment. The video and accompanying service aim to make impact data more visible and easier to apply across different educational contexts.
