Eaton launches Solstar LED downlights

Eaton’s Cooper Lighting and Safety releases the Solstar LED, a new high performance range of LED downlights available in four lumen output versions.

Power management company Eaton has announced that its Cooper Lighting and Safety business has launched the Solstar LED, a new high performance range of LED downlights available in four lumen output versions, all backed up by a three-hour maintained emergency capability. The die-cast aluminium front bezel can be substituted for a decorative halo glass attachment.

Solstar LED provides an energy saving of 75% when compared to existing low energy fluorescent models, and features a twist-and-lock attachment for ease of installation and aesthetic value.

“Many new LED downlights have reduced the housing diameter to suit the LED source. However, this can increase the glare dramatically and is also impractical in retrofit or upgrade situations due to the large cut out diameter left by the existing product,” says Greg Herring, product marketing manager of Eaton’s Cooper Lighting and Safety business.

“The Solstar LED cut out diameter is designed to match most compact fluorescent type formats, which makes it an ideal upgrade product. It has a 4000K colour temperature, high-output, highly efficient LED source and comes with energy-efficient high frequency control gear as standard.

“An extensive range of retrofit attachments gives greater scope for both decorative applications and where a degree of environmental protection is required. Solstar’s plug and play remote gear box is fast and easy to install and gives improved flexibility in restricted ceiling voids.”

Solstar LED’s housing is made from die-cast aluminium, while the bezel is also made of die-cast aluminium in white finish. The bezel optic has an opal polycarbonate, TPa-rated diffused white finish. Maintained emergency lighting works continuously and will continue even if mains power fails.

Standard versions are Class II double insulated while emergency versions are Class I and must be earthed. Large models weigh 1.9kg and have 2300 and 1520 lumen outputs at power dissipation of 27W and 17W respectively. Small models weigh 1.2kg and have 1200 and 860 lumen outputs at 14W and 10W respectively. The large halo glass attachment weighs an additional 0.54kg, while the small one adds 0.23kg.
