Futuresource Consulting has published new research forecasting the global LED video wall controller market will reach $693m by 2029, driven by a projected 17 percent compound annual growth rate.

The firm valued the market at $316m in 2024 and expects growth of 14 percent in 2025 to around $360m. The research argues that as LED modules and cabinets become increasingly commoditised – particularly at pixel pitches of 2.6mm and below, where packageless CoB and CoG technologies are projected to represent two-thirds of global direct view LED market value by the end of the decade – differentiation and margin are shifting into the control layer.
Third-party controllers currently account for 84.5 percent of global LED controller market value, with Novastar and Colorlight together commanding nearly three-quarters of that segment. However, Futuresource says their broad availability across competing brands is creating homogenisation. Eight manufacturers – Aoto, Christie Digital, LG, Planar, Samsung, Sharp, Sansi North America and Sony – have responded by developing proprietary controllers exclusive to their own product lines.
Ted Romanowitz, principal consultant at Futuresource Consulting, said: “The global direct view LED market is reaching a turning point. As the market consolidates, brands need to show clear value in the verticals they serve. Those that can’t differentiate will find it harder to grow and stay competitive. And increasingly, that battle comes down to the LED controller.”
The report maps controller capabilities across eight vertical markets – retail, corporate and education, control room, broadcast, transportation, hospitality and leisure, stadiums and venues, and media and advertising – each of which, Futuresource says, imposes distinct requirements around redundancy, image quality, manageability, security and workflow integration.
Marques Girardelli, associate consultant at Futuresource Consulting, added: “Architecture is a critical choice that cannot be overlooked. By differentiating features, you’re baking in brand loyalty and supporting average selling price uplift, whether that’s through AI-driven processing, virtual production capability, managed services or advanced calibration.”
The report also examines five broader pro AV trends the firm says are shaping controller development: processing performance, simplicity and ease of use, manageability and managed services, sustainability and total cost of ownership, and cybersecurity.
