Digital Projection announces ‘world’s first’ 8k laser projector and European entry to LED display market

The new INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K will be officially be unveiled at ISE in February (Amsterdam RAI, 6-9th), alongside a brand new Radiance LED video wall range

The new INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K will officially be unveiled at ISE in February (Amsterdam RAI, 6-9th), alongside a brand new Radiance LED video wall range

The British firm, which will be celebrating 10 years of attending the annual AV show, has manufactured projection units since 1989 and describes itself as a ‘digital imaging pioneer’.

The new INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K projector, once launched at ISE, will become the world’s first commercially available DLP laser 8K projector, and is ideal – so says the firm – for anywhere that needs high-resolution imagery from a single projector.

“The new flagship projector is the ultimate solution for the most elaborate medical, scientific and immersive visualisation and large-venue applications,’ the firm said in a statement.

The INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K provides a new performance benchmark in the industry

Notable features include ultra-high 8K resolution (7680 X 4320) of 33-million pixels through 25,000 ANSI lumens of solid-state laser-phosphor illumination. In addition to the resolution and lumen performance, it uses DLP technology incorporating 3x 1.38″ DarkChip DMD chips and Digital Projection’s ColorMax technology to provide ‘superb colour accuracy’ and black levels.

The use of laser will also remove the need for lamp replacements, whilst maintaining a consistent performance.

“From simulation and visualisation projects requiring unmatched details, to elite entertainment venues that demand the most immersive experience through large-scale imagery, the INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K provides a new performance benchmark in the industry,” the firm added.

“Lamp replacements are never required due to the solid-state laser illumination system. By eliminating regular lamp replacement cycles, system operation is never interrupted, making long-term maintenance costs virtually non-existent. This means dramatically lower cost of ownership over the lifespan of the projector.”

LED entry

During ISE, Digital Projection will also officially announce its European entry into the LED display market, launching its 120Hz and 3D capable Narrow Pixel Pitch (NPP) Radiance LED display range.

The Radiance brand was first launched in the US in May last year, but until now has not officially been available in the UK and across Europe.

Ideal solution for broadcast, command and control, visitor attraction, house of worship as well as rental entertainment applications

“LED video walls elegantly address applications where a projection solution may difficult to deploy due to high ambient light or challenging installation parameters,” commented Richard Hill, national LED display solutions manager for Digital Projection in May.

“The fine-pitch LED product category is one of the fastest growing sectors in the display market and we are excited to bring Radiance LED to the market, backed by the personal support teams that our customers have entrusted with their most challenging projector applications for the past 20 years.”

Four models will be available at launch, with LED panels ranging from 1.2, 1.5, 1.9 and 2.5mm. The 1.5mm pixel pitch 3D capable Radiance LED will be presented on stand, while other resolutions are also currently shipping.

The new Black SMD LED range offers up to 1,000 nits of brightness, a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The range, which has a lifetime expectancy of 50,000 hours, is built on a native 16:9 aspect ratio and is able to achieve full HD 1080p imagery and Ultra-HD 4K, making it the “ideal solution” for various installations including retail, broadcast, command and control, visitor attraction, house of worship as well as rental entertainment applications.

Chris Axford (pictured), international sales and marketing director from Digital Projection added: “We’re excited to be celebrating a decade of presence at ISE with two fantastic new product launches to enhance and expand our already successful range.

“The INSIGHT Dual Laser 8K demonstrates our continued commitment to innovation in the solid-state laser projection space – setting an industry standard once again, while the Radiance LED video wall solution uses our expertise in display solutions and channels it into new technologies. We welcome current and new customers along to see these innovative additions for themselves at what is set to be our biggest and best ISE yet.”
