Daktronics provides LED displays for Rugby World Cup venues

Daktronics LED video display systems feature in almost half of the 13 stadiums used for the Rugby World Cup 2015, held in England for the first time since 1991.

Twickenham stadium, the Home of England Rugby and the host of the opening ceremony, semi-finals and the final has four Daktronics LED video displays. These include two 167sqm displays featuring a 13HD pixel layout with a further two 8.82sqm displays with 10mm line spaced SMD LEDs. The screens can display one large image to highlight live video and instant replay, or be divided into multiple sections for a variety of statistics, game information etc.

Wembley Stadium and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park stadium are also host venues, which deploy visual solutions designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics.

The Olympic Park stadium installed two large curved LED video displays in time for the Rugby World Cup, each 8m high by 26.7m wide to produce a combined display space of more than 420sqm with a 15HD pixel layout.

Wembley Stadium’s display system includes two main curved video displays and a ribbon display circling the entire interior of the stadium along the seating area. The two main LED video displays each measure 8.15m high by 23.88m wide, providing a combined display space of 382sqm with 15HD pixel layout. The 20mm resolution ribbon display measures 0.75m by 612m in circumference.

In addition to the interior displays, Wembley also has three large video displays outside. The main screen is 7.69m high by 59.56m wide, flanked by a further two displays each 11.48m high by 19.96m wide.

Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium is also a Rugby World Cup venue and has installed two Daktronics LED displays, one at either end of the pitch measuring 6.94m high by 15.72m wide, providing 109sqm of space for a variety of content.

Finally, Brighton Community Stadium has two LED displays with 15HD resolution, also located at both ends of the pitch combining for more than 83sqm.

Daktronics regional manager Ewan Prentice commented: “We are all very proud and thankful at Daktronics to all the stadiums for trusting and supporting Daktronics in what we do. I feel it speaks volumes of who we are and what we believe in. I’m very proud to have been involved in each installation, as every venue took on a new challenge. Each venue trusted Daktronics to help guide them through the process, focusing on embracing the very latest innovations in technology with the goal of enhancing the game day experience for all involved.”
