China overtakes US to become world’s largest projector market

Projector sales in China in the year to date comfortably exceeded those in the United States, according to a new report from California-based PMA Research.

Projector sales in China in the year to date numbered 1.8 million units, compared with 1.6 million units in the United States, according to a new report from California-based PMA Research, which specialises in market information for the projection market

Nick Rogers, CEO of PMA Research, commented: “In 2013 Q2 GDP rose by ‘only’ 7.5% due to control of investment by the Chinese government. In addition, the education procurement process began in Q2 as well, and large volume shipments are expected in 2013 Q3 and beyond. Finally, the digital cinema market is exploding in China, and the home theatre and pico and personal markets are expected to show gains in the next year as well.”

PMA Research recently hired Jennie Yi to open its Beijing office and spearhead the company’s research efforts in the Chinese market. Yi worked with PMA’s team of analysts to put together this new quarterly report focusing the developing market in China. She comes to PMA Research with more than ten years of projector product and sales experience.

“I have witnessed the development of the Chinese projector business first hand, in areas like education and culture, and I enjoy observing and analysing this market,” said Yi. “I am committed to continue my efforts to promote China’s professional display industry in my new role at PMA Research.”
