Canon projectors in Milan Expo centrepiece

The Milan Expo 2015 Universal Exhibition took place over a six-month period, and Canon partnered with LM Productions to create a spectacular centrepiece at the heart of the Qatar Pavilion. The Expo hosted exhibits from 145 participating countries, showcasing their technology highlights.

LM Productions required a projector solution that could video map a central projection throughout the day onto a 12m fabric sculptural tree at the centre of the Al Jefeer Theatre. The tree was to be brought to life through lighting and laser effects which were synchronised with 3D audio effects and special speakers. This allowed the sound to follow guests as they perform a 360o walk around all sides of the exhibit.

Twelve Canon XEED WUX6000 projectors – which feature LCOS technology – were chosen because they met the demanding criteria and because they could adapt to the complex requirements of the installation, which resulted in bespoke mounts being built to achieve the full breadth of coverage required.

“For this particular show, a great deal of flexibility was required due to last minute design changes,” said Stephen Harvey, managing director at LM Productions. “The team at Canon was incredibly adaptable in this respect and the ease of installation the Canon XEED WUX6000 offered helped us achieve the best solution possible.”

“The show was seen by around 10,000 guests per day throughout the six months of the Milan Expo, and as of 31 October 2015, over four million attendees had visited.”
