Bilbao conference centre switches from lamp to laser with Sony

The Euskalduna Jauregia Conference Centre and Concert Hall in Bilbao has overhauled and standardised its pool of projectors, going from lamp-based models to Sony laser projectors, as specified by integrator Faston Audiovisuales.

The principal aim was to reduce maintenance, which led Faston Audiovisuales to suggest Sony VPL-FHZ65 projectors with Z-Phosphor laser light source, which has an approximate lifespan of 20,000 hours compared to 2,000-3,000 hours between lamp changes.

Designed by architects Federico Soriano and Dolores Palacios to resemble a ship under permanent construction, the Euskalduna Conference Centre is located on the site formerly occupied by the Euskalduna shipyard.

The centre, which measures 58,200sqm, brings together economic and business, institutional, social and cultural activities. In 2015 the centre hosted more than 400 conferences and meetings, eight of which involved more than 1,000 attendees.

Faston Audiovisuales chose the VPL-FHZ65 projector for its combination of 3LCD projection and Z-Phosphor laser light source, which meets the needs of the Euskalduna Conference Centre in terms of image quality, reliability and durability.

The first two projectors have now been installed in the meeting rooms and conference rooms that the Euskalduna Conference Centre rents out for different events. In a place with such a large number of people, the VPL-FHZ65 is very useful in facilities of this type, where there are lots of presentations close together.

It is claimed that due to the purchase of the Sony laser projectors, the Euskalduna Conference Centre will not have to replace the light source for its new projectors for around 10 years.

“With the laser technology you can see higher resolution and greater brightness than with the previous lamp-based projectors. We are hoping for energy savings, a longer lifespan and greater reliability during the equipment’s lifetime”, said Gaizka Ibarluzea, head of audiovisuals at the Euskalduna Conference Centre.
