UMAN Universal Media Access Networks GmbH is the latest organisation to join the AVnu Alliance, which is an industry-wide forum focused on the advancement of Audio Video Bridging (AVB) standards.
Founded by six companies – Broadcom Corporation, Cisco Systems, Harman International, Intel Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co and Xilinx Inc – the AVnu Alliance has risen rapidly to enjoy a global profile with more and more companies investing time and energy in AVB as a pathway to comprehensive audio/visual networking.
Accordingly, the Alliance now boasts 17 other members in addition to UMAN and the aforementioned sextet: Analog Devices, Applied Micro, Audinate, Avid, Barco, Biamp Systems, Lab X Technologies, Marvell, Meyer Sound, Micrel Inc, Molex, Peavey/MediaMatrix, Pelagicore, Sennheiser Electronic, Shure Inc, UNH InterOperability Laboratory and XMOS.
Founded in 2007, Dusseldorf-based UMAN is responsible for the development of the UNOS (Universal Network Operating System), among other technologies. The company’s managing director is Jürgen Scheuring, pictured above.
Invited to consider the outlook for UMAN and UNOS within the context of AVB, UMAN GmbH sales and marketing director David Reay told IE: “UMAN works actively within the AVNu Alliance to find solutions for a unified command & control in future IP based media networks. We understand AVB, and that it is a trigger for the ever-growing demand from end-users to have a common user interface which is independent form the underlying network and manufacturers.
