Alcons launches CRS8 surround speaker for digital cinema

Alcons introduces the CRS8 high-fidelity pro-ribbon surround system to its digital cinema range.

Alcons introduces the CRS8 high-fidelity pro-ribbon surround system to its digital cinema range. The CRS8 is a two-way, passive-filtered, full-range loudspeaker, combining clarity and intelligibility with low distortion and a high dynamic range. Alcons claims that the CRS8 offers the most realistic sound reproduction possible. Typical applications include surround sound systems for premium digital cinemas, performing arts theatres, high-end home cinemas, demanding screening rooms and post-production studios. The CRS8 system configuration consists of one RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for mid/high frequency and a vented reference quality 8-inch mid-bass for low frequency reproduction. The RBN401 driver is a proprietary-designed and multiple-patented pro-ribbon mid/high frequency transducer. Due to its low weight moving mass, this transducer reproduces sound with up to 90% less distortion than compression driver designs. The system has a linear response, with the same tonal balance at lowest as well as highest sound pressure levels. By using the same RBN401 transducer as fitted in Alcons’ pro-ribbon screen systems, there is a match between screen and surround system, resulting in a wide and deep sound stage throughout the entire listening area. This is said to make a striking difference in multi-channel immersive surround sound systems. The enclosure design, together with the different mounting options, provides for low-profile wall mounting, and the Architect Colour Option makes the CRS8 blend in with any interior colour design. www.digitalcinemaready.infowww.alconsaudio.com
