Assistive listening specialist Contacta has launched what it says is the world’s first window intercom system with a Level 8 UL752 approval. The Level 8 category is administered by the US Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and means it is tested to protect against high-powered military rifles.
Designed for installation in high level security windows, the STS-K023 provides two-way communication in environments such as banks, pharmacies, CBD outlets, federal buildings, law enforcement offices, public transport hubs, embassies and consulates.
The system features a Level 8 ballistic-rated STS-BL8, a glass-mounted, all-in-one speaker and microphone customer unit which enhances security by fitting in existing holes of 2.5-4in diameter in the glass.
Systems in the new range feature advanced audio settings including AGC, volume in/out adjustment, feedback suppression adjustment, call recording, call button option, wired or wireless headset connection, and energy saving sleep mode. Durable steel construction ensures long lasting performance.
The STS-K023 is part of a new range of window intercom systems for the US market, specifically designed for security windows with existing openings. Created by Contacta’s in-house design team, the range also includes the STS-K022, a Level 3 ballistic-rated version, and a non-ballistic option, the STS-K021.
Each system comes with built-in hearing loop technology to make every window ADA compliant.
Ran Meyrav, head of business development, Contacta, said: “We design to meet the needs of our customers and end users. We identified significant demand for a high-level ballistic-rated talk-thru system. Glass with a Level 8 rating needs a communication system to match to maintain its integrity. Clear conversation is essential for the day-to-day transactions carried out at these windows, but staff safety shouldn’t be compromised by openings in the glass.”
Alongside the speaker and microphone customer unit, each kit in the new range comprises a window intercom system amplifier, a combined staff unit speaker and microphone, a window-mounted loop aerial and signage.
