60 seconds with: Thomas Pollum, Navori Labs

This month, Navori Labs managing director Thomas Pollum takes the hot seat for our ’60 seconds with’ interview…

How did you get into the industry?

It was a lifelong evolution that began at a young age. I always had a strong interest in technology, which was confirmed when I received my first Commodore 64 personal computer at the age of 13. That passion for modern technology had an important influence on my professional direction, which ultimately led me to the AV industry. I have found it to be a very interesting market, particularly as it relates to digital signage.

What was your first job?

My professional AV career began in 2006 when I joined BenQ as key account manager. I spent more than two years there before moving on to a regional sales manager position at Samsung and stayed there for several years.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Typical would imply that each business day is similar, and I am lucky to not have a typical day. Digital signage is a rapidly evolving market segment. Therefore, every day is different and brings new challenges. I am thoroughly involved in organisational and strategic tasks, project management, sales and business development, and leading and developing my team. These are just some of the many tasks that keep me busy.

What has been your favorite/proudest project?

Some of the more interesting and challenging Navori projects that come to mind include TUI, Commerzbank, IKEA, National Lottery Germany and Opel. There are many more, but these are top of mind. Internal milestones are also quite important. I’ve been involved in the development of several exciting new products in my time at Navori.

Bringing these unique innovations to the market and presenting to customers, resellers, and journalists at exhibitions are always very proud moments. We are in the process of a very exciting new innovation for digital signage market at this moment, and I am particularly proud to be a part of that development process.

What is the most ambitious project you’ve worked on?

Every project is unique. The important point is to have an ambitious mentality to handle each project with the best possible care. We’re always working to create the best solution for each customer that exceeds their requirements, brings new benefits, and makes them happy.

How do you balance life and work?

Spending time with my family is what brings balance to my life. We have a dog – a Broholmer named Polly. She takes me for long walks. On the other hand, it is a blessing to love what I do professionally. That makes achieving a work-life balance much easier.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your job?

The biggest challenge in my job is to always optimise communication across every aspect of our business. It’s important to clearly communicate with professionals across all different skillsets and experience levels.

What do you like most about the industry?

I enjoy being part of a dynamic and evolving industry. I value the opportunity to present and sell our innovative technology to customers.

In our industry there are always new innovations and rapid changes when it comes to digital signage. I love to adapt to changing situations, and work out the best market strategies to maintain our leadership position in this industry.
