Sports Venue Technology Summit explores the connected stadium at ISE

The Sports Venue Technology Summit will examine the changing technical provision and expectations of the contemporary connected stadium at ISE 2016.

Taking place on 11 February in the RAI, the free-to-attend, half-day conference programme has been devised by Sports Video Group Europe – a trade association for professionals working in television sports production – in conjunction with leading audio consultant, project manager and RH Consulting founder Roland Hemming.

Conference chair Hemming commented: “This year we will be focusing on the reality check of what happens in the life of a stadium, and asking what are the key concerns of the different departments before and during an event. It’s amazing to think that some of these people don’t get a chance to talk and understand each other’s requirements. The SVGE summit at ISE 2016 is a chance to fix that.”

Scott Burges, director of special projects at AV and technical staging services specialist Creative Technology, and Bastien Lacheny, commercial director of sports business services provider deltatre, are the latest additions to the programme.

Integral to the conference will be a recurring strand examining the processes and possible challenges involved in making a stadium run smoothly on the day of a major sports event that is being broadcast to national and/or international audiences. Burges will join all three of these sessions, alongside CTV OB technical director Hamish Greig and Amsterdam Arena production manager Tim Oosterop.

Deepening fan engagement through new technology is the name of the game as sports associations and venue operators seek to maintain the attention of an increasingly distracted populace. Therefore, another key session will address emerging technologies and techniques that are set to enhance the sports viewing experience for all concerned. Taking part in this session alongside Bastien Lacheny will be: BroaMan managing director Tine Helmle, Aspera senior technical specialist Per Hansen, Genelec marketing and PR director Lars-Olof Janflod, Media Links head of EMEA John Smith, and NewTek director of sales east EMEA Chris Waddington.

The P.A. People managing director Chris Dodds and Powersoft business development manager, fixed install, Marc Kocks will participate in a panel about ‘temporary overlay’ – in other words, the elements that are added to permanent venues to enable the staging of major sports fixtures or other elements. Rounding out the busy half-day programme will be a keynote conversation with Auditoria director/founder Scott Willsallen, whose many technical production design and management projects over the last decade have encompassed sporting venues, performing arts facilities, educational facilities and houses of worship, as well as involvement in stadium events including multiple Summer Olympic, Winter Olympic, Commonwealth and Regional Games.
