Procella launches flagship subwoofer

Procella Audio is demonstrating the V18 Bass Engine at ISE 2017. This dual-18in subwoofer produces a continuous output of 137dB, with peak output of 143dB. Its 100kg enclosure is a sealed-box design utilising Procella’s unique V-Loaded driver configuration, driven by the company’s DA06-DSP 2,400W power amplifier.

The V-Loaded configuration, first made available in the P860 speaker and V6 subwoofer, mounts the drivers facing each other, angled at about 12º to form a shape like the letter V. This produces coupling and a high compression loading of the drivers, resulting in lower distortion, improved transient response, and reduced cone excursion at high SPL.

“We’re excited about being able to debut the V18 at the ISE show. Our P18 subwoofer has been the reference subwoofer for ten years, yet we still had customers asking for even more bass,” said Procella founding director and V18 designer Anders Uggelberg. “So to go beyond the P18, we increased the enclosure volume and added our V-Loaded configuration. This enables the V18 to achieve higher sensitivity, 3dB higher maximum SPL, and some 3dB more power at very low frequencies.”

The V18 has 1W/1m sensitivity of 105dB, and power handling of 2 x 1,400W continuous (2 x 2,800W peak). The -3dB point is 18Hz, enabling massive subsonic output. Its hand-made neodymium drivers have 4in voice coils and are produced for Procella by a top Italian professional audio driver manufacturer.
