Pakedge Device & Software, a provider of advanced networking products and cloud network-management services for the connected home and business market, is at ISE as part of Control4, which announced its acquisition of the company last week. Control4 acquired Pakedge for approximately $32.7 million in cash on 29 January.
Pakedge is known in the industry for its networking and backbone capabilities for the connected building, so brings complementary services to Control4’s building automation products.
Paul Williams, VP solutions at Control4, commented on the deal: “A very important part of smart home technology is a very stable network. Pakedge brings scalable network solutions second to none to Control4, and it is widely accepted by our dealer base. From a strategic perspective this acquisition made perfect sense; it’s very beneficial to our dealers, giving them a known, go-to solution to put in. This gives us synergy to be able to create packages for our dealers to create offerings for their customers, as well as simplifying the installation process for them, and ensuring what they’re getting is very reliable.”
Meanwhile, Nickolas Phillips, VP sales at Pakedge, stated: “Now, my mind is spinning! No one else in the market has the synergy that we do; the capability of control and automation, security and everything else Control4 does, plus Pakedge’s networking and backbone technology.”
Phillips added: “Being a tech company, we’re basically a bunch of engineers with a very small sales and marketing arm. The bigger global stage that Control4 has, plus its sales and marketing capability and integrating our products into Control4’s roadmap, is exciting. We are now having lots of conversations about that combined roadmap.”
Pakedge had approximately $18.5 million in sales in 2015, delivered through its professional sales and installation channel of 1,700 independent dealers, 560 of which are also Control4 certified dealers. Control4 intends to fully support the Pakedge product line for all Pakedge dealers, regardless of whether they are also Control4 certified dealers.
