ISE exhibitor Opticis has developed a USB 3.1 active optical cable, the USB-FC-31AA. It features a USB A-type plug into a USB A-type receptacle and, as it supports SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps data rates, it is compatible with USB 3.1 and USB 3.0.
The USB-FC-31AA transmits USB 3.1 (3.0) data up to 50m over plenum graded or LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) hybrid cable. Unlike other USB active optical cables, according to the company, the USB-FC-31AA is insensitive to Tx/Rx such that users no longer need to be concerned about which is the transmitter or receiver side. The USB-FC-31AA does not require any software to use, neither does it require an external power supply.
