New Constellation offers galaxy of features

A series of Atem Constellation HD live production switchers, with 1M/E, 2M/E and 4M/E models has been launched at ISE.

Craig Heffernan, technical sales director, Blackmagic Design, said: “It’s the next generation Atem switcher, based on the original hardware development we did for 8K. The idea is to bring all this technology down to the HD market, so they get more DVEs, keyers and greater quality,” said

“Any input can be an output, so it’s got incredible versatility and scalability for productions,” he added.

The models have 10, 20 or 40 3G-SDI inputs, all with standards conversion/up and cross converter on every input, plus four advanced chroma keyers and a DVE per M/E row, media players, media pool and multiviewers.

The rack units have a control panel with large LCD, ideal for portable live production, with the rear I/O panel including balanced audio and Ethernet connections. The 4M/E model adds RS-422 serial control and MADI digital audio.

They include talkback, using five-pin XLR headsets or via SDI for Blackmagic’s cameras. A media pool stores RGBA graphics and animations for instant playback, and they have Fairlight audio mixers, for complex live sound mixing, with up to 156 input channels.
