Inspired by its successful Smart Home Recommended Wiring Guidelines Best Practice publication, CEDIA has launched a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training course, tailored to the needs of architects, interior designers and property developers.
“Smart Home Cabling Requirements for the Modern Home is a great new CPD resource for our members,” said Vin Bruno, CEDIA CEO. “This new course builds on our existing offering and gives our members another great opportunity to connect with architects, interior designers and housebuilders with the consistent message of the importance of working together in the early stages of a project to achieve success.”
Accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) and the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA), the new CPD course offers a step-by-step guide to cabling for an integrated home project. It identifies the key wiring requirements for a smart home installation and explains a range of topic areas, including the types of cabling infrastructure to support a professional home technology installation, the services and benefits available and the different grade of cables used for home technology.
“Architects and other design professionals remain significant influencers for the home technology industry,” added Bruno. “It is vital that we as an industry foster collaborative relationships between our members and industry partners. Knowing what’s required from a design perspective to ensure a successful smart home installation will serve everyone involved, most importantly the homeowner client.

CEDIA has been engaging with these communities through the provision of CPD courses, talks and relevant support materials since 2006.
The established and highly successful CEDIA CPD training course, Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes, continues to prove popular across EMEA. Now available in Italian, Polish, Russian and Spanish, the latest figures from CEDIA reveal that more than 700 design professionals are taking this course every year.
Any CEDIA member who wants to present CEDIA CPD content must first become recognised as a CEDIA Outreach Instructor (COI). The COI programme enables members to provide continuing education to their local design and build industry partners, helping establish vital business-to-business networking contacts and raising the awareness of CEDIA, its members and the home technology industry.
COIs are CEDIA members who have attended and passed the ‘Train the Trainer’ course with a peer-evaluated presentation session. After passing the comprehensive ‘Train the Trainer’ course, CEDIA supplies the tools needed to successfully leverage this member-to-member benefit in local markets. In order to maintain this CEDIA designation, COIs are required to follow strict guidelines that include meeting deadlines for registering upcoming classes, reporting participant attendance, and maintaining minimum evaluation ratings.
