Black Box: Multicast HDMI over IP gets USB HID support

The new MediaCento IPX USB receivers and transmitters from Black Box offer USB human interface device support for touchscreens and other USB HIDs, and can be configured for point-to-multipoint (multicast), videowall or point-to-point video extension (unicast) applications. If managed with the IPX Controller, the system turns into an IP-based video matrix. Transmitters can also send USB signals to a receiver for remote touchscreen and KVM applications.

It multicasts HDMI video and audio to any screens on a network. “A single transmitter can deliver multimedia to hundreds of displays with no need to run dedicated video links from a back room to displays in lobbies,” said Erik Indresovde, Black Box’s KVM and ProAV product manager. Transmitters and receivers install directly into the existing LAN infrastructure, for easy integration.

The extender transmits up to 100m over CatX cabling, or further when additional network switches are added. The MediaCento IPX USB can be powered using standard PoE technology or via a separate power input.

However, using a PoE network switch completely eliminates the need for external power supplies, making installation even easier.
