ISE Daily: Highlights of ISE’s first winter Barcelona event

Panasonic’s virtual stage at ISE 2023

The global AV community brought the Fira Barcelona Gran Via to life last week as ISE 2023 put on a tour de force in its first full-scale event back in its traditional winter time slot. It was a record-setting show, with the largest ever first-day ISE attendance and the largest ever ISE show floor – at 56,870sqm – with exhibitors reporting unparalleled visitor numbers at their stands.

As the ISE Daily team can attest, the show floor this year was busy, vibrant, and full of the kind of product and technology innovation that makes this show so unique and valuable to the professional AV community. Innovation was also a cornerstone of this year’s thought leadership content, as our keynotes took us on a tour of technological innovation (BK Johannessen on virtual production and games engines); production innovation (Stephen Nuttall on live-broadcasting the America’s Cup), and industry innovation (Fran Chuan and his survey on how innovative the industry is), and there was plenty of additional insight and intrigue being presented and discussed across the show’s conference and content areas, including in the new Content Production & Distribution Summit.

As ever, it is the ISE Daily team’s genuine privilege to be on-site to report on all of the key areas of the show, and here we’ve distilled a selection of highlights from our coverage of the 2023 event.

Lessons on innovation in AV

The AV industry is highly innovative compared to other industries, but has a tendency to “confuse innovation with novelty” that in turn means significant resources can often be squandered on short-term competitive gains. This was one of three key findings of a survey conducted by InnoQuotient CEO Fran Chuan among ISE 2023 visitors and exhibitors in the lead-up to the show.
