ISE 2014: DynaScan has ‘world’s brightest’ display

The new 84in display delivers 2,500 nits and features 4K Ultra HD IPS LCD. It is designed for large scale display applications in high ambient light environments.

A new 84in large format display, claimed to be the brightest of its type in the world, will be launched by DynaScan Technology at ISE 2014. The DS841LR4 is the largest professional LCD offering from DynaScan, and features a 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) IPS LCD with an ultra-high brightness backlight (with local dimming), producing a sunlight-viewable 2,500 nit image.

The DS841LR4 is designed for large scale display applications in high ambient light environments, and is said to be an ideal solution for storefront windows, outdoor kiosks and other locations with direct sunlight. As solar heat gain is a concern when a display is placed behind glass, the DS841LR4 includes what Dynascan describes as an ultra-quiet, high efficiency cooling system, along with a high temperature resistant panel capable of tolerating temperatures up to 110°C (240°F) before experiencing blackening.

Local dimming of the backlight means that darker areas of an image receive less backlighting than lighter areas, producing a high contrast image with deep black levels.

The DS841LR4 uses IPS display technology for accurate colour from all viewing angles. Each screen is individually colour-calibrated to the D65 (6,500K) colour standard to ensure uniformity amongst multiple displays. The screen may also be calibrated to a user’s specification using DynaScan’s calibration solution.

The new model expands DynaScan’s portfolio of high brightness displays to ten different models in various sizes, brightness levels and form factors. The DS841LR4 will begin shipping this quarter.
