According to Intel, the announcement of the UHD Alliance Premium Certified specification, a rating applied to TVs that meet or exceed certain performance minimums for Ultra High Definition TVs, and emerging Ethernet-based technologies in the field of unified communications, present an exciting opportunity for product innovation and differentiation.
At ISE, the company’s Programmable Solutions Group (formerly Altera) is showcasing its FPGA offerings that it says can help how equipment vendors embrace the transformation to UHD and differentiate their products, noting that its technology is enabling the future of video experiences with flexible programmable logic, high performance I/O and ready-to-go IP solutions that support UHD Premium interfacing such as HDMI 2.0a, DisplayPort 1.4 and VoIP technologies such as SMPTE 2022/2110 and AES67.
The Intel Arria 10 FPGA solution for UHD video connectivity and processing enables 8K/120 and HDR support. When combined with Intel microprocessors, for functions including High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC or H.265), the company says that Arria 10 FPGAs enable differentiated designs at optimum cost.
Intel notes how its FPGAs empower a wide variety of state of the art AV solutions in digital signage, interactive white boards, videowalls, DOOH, control rooms and AV networking. As an example, Intel FPGAs bring vision and machine learning functions to products in a world where screens are no longer a one-way communication medium.
