DiGiCo provides access to all areas

The newly launched 4REA4 installed audio solution expands DiGiCo’s live performance reach for multi-area venues and stages. “It’s really aimed at multiple performance areas; cruise ships, for example, or houses of worship,” said Roger Wood, head of software development at DiGiCo.

“We are already providing consoles for a large number of houses of worship. They all have DiGiCo systems, and the requirement to ‘broadcast’ to different areas within their venue.”

The 4REA4 processing engine rack has four dedicated mix areas, or zones, each with its own stereo master output, CGs, and allocated FX.

Managing the mixing and routing of each individual local performance area are a new range of hardware control panels and external I/O units, that work in conjunction with the 4REA4 processing engine and control software.

“Another potential use: our smaller consoles also get used a lot as matrix mixers at festivals,” added Wood. “(4REA4) is actually a lot more capable because it has far more I/O options, so you can come along with pretty much any console and there will be some method of connecting it in to the festival matrix.”

Local I/O boxes are managed via proprietary Ethernet or Dante connectivity for extended reach across a facility, with options including the new A168 STAGE floor rack and the A164 WALL LCD box, both providing mic and line level connectivity.

“In a situation where you require high-quality audio, 4REA4 provides 96kHz, which isn’t something you always see in an install environment. It’s part of the DiGiCo family of consoles, so it can be easily integrated into the rest of our range. What it boils down to is four independent mix areas, all from one master audio engine, 48 assignable busses, 128 assignable input channels and dedicated control options.”
